New Years Resolutions

I’m not a person to make resolutions because I feel like they can be easily broken. I am more of a person that just changes my lifestyle to fit my needs for that time.

This year, I have decided that I would actually write out resolutions and share with you guys…also so you can hold me accountable. I’ll break it up into sections and than add the resolutions under each.


LIFE/HEALTH

  1. I will eat healthier.
  2. I will get into the best shape of my life.
  3. I will be happy.
  4. I will help more people.
  5. I will be a better person, just in general.

WORK

  1. I will continue working on my blog and create engaging content.
  2. I will reach 10,000+ blog followers for 2017.
  3. I will become very successful in my career.
  4. I will love my work.
  5. I will help people through my job.
  6. I will finish writing my book.


That’s all I have folks! I know I should have been doing this all along but I’m sticking to these!!!!

Does Not Travel Well With Others

Hey Ya’ll! I have been traveling a little bit, mainly down south. I am now home and super exhausted!

I normally travel alone because I like to do things on my own schedule. Drive where I want and eat where I want. I don’t like to feel obligated to do anything, especially when I travel. This specific getaway, one of my really good friends went with me…this is also the same friend that I traveled to Hawaii with. You can take a look at my older Hawaii post here. This particular friend is my travel buddy for long trips and it works out very well.

Our trip started off good but I’m the type that likes to move in an airport.  I like to get where I am going and fast. She on the other hand likes to stop and buy things and talk to people.  She strolls slowly through the airport, like we are driving down a scenic countryside. BLAH!  I said nothing and let it slide. (Side note: I think Chicago has changed this about me….when in Chicago, keep your head down and walk fast). Carry on.

When we landed in North Carolina and got our rental car, she decides that she needs to drive.  Sure…she then decides to take the scenic route…okay.  Somehow we end up eating at this hole in the wall, in a town outside of Raleigh. Everything was great until the first batch of food poison hits like a wave. LOL! Its comical now but then, I was hurting and extremely livid. This is why I like to have control…. She may have poisoned me. I’m don’t have full evidence but I’m still developing some theories. After about 6 hours of being sick, I felt okay enough to get in the car, armed with ginger ale, saltines, and a very stern look.

The rest of the trip, I am very suspicious of anything and everything we did. Although, I was very alert, I still received; a sprained ankle, jellyfish sting on my leg, and brief loss of vision (due to losing my contact lenses).

I could literally write a novel about this trip…and I just might. I’m not sure if it’s me getting older and I need to have absolute control or I’m just lame.  Either way, I do not travel well with others.

Try to live unplugged as much as you can! By unplugged, I mean leave the phone alone. Don’t take it to dinner with you, leave it on the charger in another room while watching tv! Just leave it! You’ll feel instantly better and people will enjoy your company as well as your undivided attention.

Whether it is Yoga, Pilates, or Crossfit; find out what works for you. Even if it’s, pole dancing! Do it! The extra energy will feel great and your body will look awesome too! Bonus!

Sleep In

Feeling drained all the time? That’s your body telling you that you need to catch up on some zzzz’s. On your day off, don’t set your alarm and just let your body naturally wake you up! You’ll be glad you did! And don’t forget, sleep cures almost anything!

Treat Yo Self!

Take a personal day and just pamper yourself. Get a massage or a facial. Do something that makes your feel good! I’m not girlie girl but getting a mani/pedi always makes me feel pretty!  (Thank you Parks and Rec for that sweet gif!)

Meditate

This isn’t for everyone but I’ve heard that once you get in to it, then you’re able to control your inner peace. But if you’re anything like me, where you have a constant rap song playing in your head or just an up beat tempo, clearing your mind can be a little tricky. So go back to taking up a new hobby!

Look for a New Work Adventure

Boy, have I had some bad jobs! Going home super stressed thinking about that stupid job and barely being able to sleep because a million things are running through your head. I swear, my last position, I went through a bottle of wine a night and I don’t even care for wine that much! It really takes a toll on your body and mind and it’s just not worth it! So find another job that you love! Say “peace bitches,” to that ungrateful boss that doesn’t appreciate you or your work ethic!

Just Dance

One of my favorite things to do at home is blast some music and do stuff around the house. Which usually involves me dancing. And sometimes I don’t even complete the work I was set to do. Instead, I find myself performing and just dancing around my house. When I’m finished I’m usually laughing and smiling. Can’t dance? Who cares…you’re home alone, just do it, even if you’re in your birthday suit!

Travel Often

Go away for the weekend! Even if it is an hour away.  Just go somewhere and clear your head! If you have the ability, go somewhere farther, preferably a beach with a cold one in your hand! I try to travel as often as possible to keep my sanity!

Easy..right?!? Now, take some time for yourself and relax!

Annual Girl’s Weekend


Every year, a group of us girls take a trip to a cabin in Wisconsin. Some lake fun, late nights drinking and games, and always a lot of laughs.

It’s always a fun weekend with these girls, and I always leave with something. This year it was my realization that I am very thankful for growing up like I did. I’ll explain.

I have been on a boat so many times growing up and everything just kind of comes natural for me.  Like docking, driving, motor issues, etc.  So, a lot of the other girls didn’t know some of the basic boat ‘etiquette’ you could say, so I was a little reluctant about going out with these girls because it’s always good to have at least 2 people who know exactly what’s going on.

A friend of mine owned the boat that we took up north and when we were about to put the boat in the water, I asked all the checklist questions about the plug, keys, life jackets….all that. She said “yes, I went through everything.”  I’m thinking okay, cool, we are ready to go.

She backs the trailer in and I pull the boat out on the water and I’m giving it some gas taking it down the lake a little bit, waiting for the girls to put up the trailer.  I go dock the boat and I look back and there is so much water in the boat. I’m thinking to myself, “what the hell?!?”  So I quickly pull the boat up to a dock and pretty much punch the gas to the dock where it is also very sandy and just pull it as close to shore as I can.  I flip the pump switch (which allows any water coming in to be pumped out) and start throwing all the stuff out of the boat to relieve some of the weight.  Chairs and coolers were just flying on to the shore.


So the owner of the boat comes over and she’s freaking out. And I’m asking her questions to try to find out what’s happening. And she is standing on the dock in complete shock.  So I dive off the back and feel for the hole that is usually plugged up and the plug was gone.  So at that point, it was a race against the clock (or the rushing water) and I’m searching this entire boat for the plug.  I run back to the truck and find the plug in the truck bed and sprint back to the boat, jump in the water and plug the hole. Phew! I’m sweating thinking about this again.

My friend was still standing there starring. And I just start laughing. I’m like “girl, your boat was about to sink!” Then it hits her, and she’s like “oh shit, oh shit…what can I do?!?”  I’m say, “nothing now, your boat is good, just a little wet. And I think you need to consider selling this thing.”

When I say I’m thankful for the way I grew up, it’s because I was able to control this specific situation through my experiences.  As a child, my family would go camping for the weekend and take the boat and just water ski and cookout the whole time. I didn’t realize at the time that I was learning actual life skills or sweet MacGyver techniques. Another story that I’ll write about later on, was when I got lost in the woods.  Yuck! Besides that specific experience, I am very grateful for my childhood and the little things that I learned! Simply a blessing in disguise! I hope everyone had an exciting weekend!

Trying New Things

As easily as I get scared, I am always up to try new and adventurous things.  Let me backtrack here, I am terrified of heights…like terrified. I don’t know exactly what happens to my body once I am up high, but my brain sends out this warning to the rest of my body and it locks up and I’m frozen.  Moving forward…

Dominican Republic

On my last trip to the Dominican Republic, I went zip-lining through the rain forest. I was thinking to myself “YES, I’m adventurous and a total badass. I got this.” But once I was in my harness and leaning over the edge in a tower swaying above some of the tallest trees in the rain forest, I started to second guess my decision. At that point, I’m thinking, “well this is dumb.”  I started to back away from the edge and was not going to do it.

“My fear of missing a once in a life time opportunity outweighed my fear of heights.”

Decision Time

Then I had some running commentary in my head, “Really?!?! Are you going to be a chicken and back out?! Seriously?!”  I stopped thinking completely and just did it.  I flew through that bad boy! Zooming through trees, feet touching water and birds just flying all around me! Best decision I have ever made.  My fear of missing a once in a life time opportunity outweighed my fear of heights.

Reasoning

Now, when I’m faced with a decision that terrifies me, I look back on this time. I just said to myself “screw it.” And do it.  I was so worried that I was going to look back and say that I wish I would have at least tried it. Since then, I have tried everything, well almost everything, that I come across.  Whether it’s food, excursions, or events.  I have said, “YES!” And I am happier then I have ever been and I also have amazing stories to tell! Next time you are in a situation where you are facing one of your fears, just say “F -IT!” You’ll regret that you didn’t!

I have lived in many places, some I absolutely loved, others not so much. And I have also traveled to many. One of my favorite places to go is Hawaii! And yes it is absolutely expensive! (Grrrr!) If you’re like me, on a budget, traveling can be very hard, especially when you have other priorities. Things like utility bills and rent, can really leave you without any room for fun. Well I am about to give you the low-down on traveling cheap and keeping some of that extra dough to make the trip extra awesome!

Here is the breakdown of my trip to give you an idea of my expenses.

Flight: $350 (round trip)

Living situation: $0 (free!)

Food for 10 days: $125

Activities: $125

Other: $100

Total: $700  (For Hawaii, including flight! WHATTTTT?!?!?)

So for the flight I got a huge discount using Travelocity.  The only downside is they choose the time you leave, which kind of sucks but hey you’re saving money! So I picked my dates and they did the rest. You also always hear about getting cheaper flights on specific days. I booked mine on a Sunday which ended up being the cheapest of all the flights that I searched.

On to the next… I got a place to stay for free through a friend in the military.  I got really lucky here because this is the most expensive part after the flight of course.  I would recommend using AirBnB. (I am getting no money from this posts by the way! It’s just something I personally use for my travels).  So, after looking at all the places to stay, the lowest I found was a studio for $58 a night. You really don’t need a huge place since there is so much to do, so you will really need a place to sleep and a small kitchen.

Speaking of food…the food in Hawaii is ridiculously expensive.  It’s delicious but expensive! I recommend going to the local market and get food for the duration. Definitely plan your meals you want to eat out.  If you are on the island of Oahu, you have to eat at Helen’s Hawaiian Food. It’s authentic Hawaiian food and priced decently.  Also, heading toward North Shore, there is a great burger joint called Kahuku Grill.  Probably the best burger I have ever had, or at least in the top 5. And it was only $6 with fries and a drink. That’s hard finding in the states!

Now for activities.  Start looking at things you would like to do before you actually get there.  Compare prices on the different things.  If it’s a local spot, you can usually get a good deal bargaining with them. On my trip, we went to a Luau and paddle boarding.  This was the total mentioned above at $125.  Seems expensive but the Luau was around $65.  We also did a lot of other activities that were for free.  Here is the list:

  1. Volcom North Shore Surfing Competition (Went in late January)
  2. Pearl Harbor
  3. Snorkeling
  4. Hiking National Parks
  5. Laniakea Beach which is also known as Turtle Beach (A ton of Turtles!!!)
  6. Kuhio Beach FREE Hula Show
  7. Watch a sunset and a sunrise!
  8. Hang out at the beach

As for the other section, that was really just souvenirs.  I actually got a lot for that price because I really shopped around.

As you can see, I did A LOT in Hawaii and it was very inexpensive.  I had a blast!! And I will totally do it again!  If you have any questions, let me know! I’ll be happy to answer!
